Your own PBX.
Your phone. Your data.
OwnPBX is free, open-source software that turns a server you control into a private phone system: calls, messages, voicemail and push-to-talk between the people you invite. No monthly bill, no tracking, no lock-in.
Not a service — a homelab project: OwnPBX is hobby software, not a phone company and not a business. We don't sell or provide telephone service of any kind (calling, SMS/MMS, push-to-talk, 911 or fax). We share the software so you can run a phone system yourself, on your own server, for your own use. The features and screenshots here show what the software does when you run it; nothing on this site is an offer of service, and it isn't meant for commercial use. The app only connects to a PBX you run or have been invited to, and there's no signup in the app.
Free on its own. Real phone numbers with a VoIP provider.
Out of the box, OwnPBX connects the people on your PBX to each other. Reaching the regular phone network takes a VoIP provider, the same way a website needs an internet connection.
Free, no provider needed
- Calls between everyone on your PBX
- Messages between extensions
- Voicemail
- Push-to-talk
Invite a friend across the street, family across the country, or someone across the world. All they need is the My Phone app (or any SIP app) and an internet connection to reach your PBX. Calls and messages stay free and private, on your server.
Needs a VoIP provider
- Calls to and from regular phone numbers
- SMS and MMS to regular phone numbers
- 911 / E911
- Sending and receiving faxes
Without a provider, OwnPBX is internal only: these features stay off.
Tested with voip.ms. OwnPBX was built and tested with voip.ms. OwnPBX itself is free; voip.ms is a paid service you top up with credit. To try it, sign up with our voip.ms referral link: voip.ms adds a bonus credit when you make a deposit of $15 or more (see voip.ms for the current offer). Other SIP providers may work but haven't been tested.
Disclosure: it's a referral link, so we may also get a credit from voip.ms if you sign up with it. OwnPBX isn't affiliated with voip.ms.

Open source, your server, your data
OwnPBX is free software under the GNU General Public License (GPL-2.0-or-later): inspect it, run it, change it, share it. The app talks only to the PBX you sign into. Your calls, messages, voicemail and contacts live on that server, not on an OwnPBX cloud (there isn't one). No ads, no analytics, no tracking, no Google services in the app.
You can ask for a copy of your data or for your account to be deleted at any time; deletion is done within 90 days. See the Privacy Policy.
